Transformer oil

07/18/2009 7:59 AM

Hey......I have met with a situation of topping up of transformer 11/0.433KV,2000KVA with oil of breakdown strength 27KV.Is it advisable? We normally do it if the breakdown strenght is more than 30KV.Is there any standards that approves it?

There are transformer construction and maintenance standards that cover this. What country are you in (or what country's standards are the transformer built to) as they are country dependent.

In general, any transformer oil with breakdown dielectric strength of 27KV, which is much higher than acceptable level of 15KV is acceptable for the 11KV system. There is a standard that approves it but it depend upon the country by country.
