Transformer Breather

Hi All

Why a Portion is Filled with Transformer oil at the bottom of the breather, what is the purpose of the oil in it.

It catches dirt particles that may be drawn with air.

it's like the old oil bath air filters used on 50's cars. the air has to dive thru the oil & particulate contamination it caught in it. also locks out humidity

To block the entry of moisture & dirt from outside atmosphere through the vent pipe to the transformer tank, the main purpose of the breather is to remove the moisture from the Transil oil, by means of silica gel.......
