What is the ideal way for determining the total number /Types of conduit fittings required for a project,

If area classfication is class 1 , div 2,with condiut used only for above ground cabling{JB-Sensors( gas detector/manual call point / flame detector)}

The way I do it is to measure length off the print and get the proper number of couplings for the straight runs ,+- a few, then count off the elbows and angles.

"measure length off the print"

Why wouldn't whoever produced the print produce a bill of materials?

That's the way we did it when I was in charge of the drafting department.

Maybe there is no print, and that's the problem?

Cheers!

You are absolutely correct. I was making an assumption. I know from experience in the field that what is attached to the original plans in the office isn't always the same as what we get on the plywood and saw horse bench at the job site.

.......and in addition to #1, it has got nothing to do with the area classification.

In my department, we estimated the conduit length and provide a percentage for 3/4", 1", 1-1/2" and 2" then provide a percentage for the fitting at past. Now, we apply the module for how many 1/2", 3/4", 1-1/2" and 2" for one instrument and see the actual quantity field instruments then multiply to get the total. It's a idea for your reference.

Rule of thumb is that you buy one extra box of each fittings per job.

That way you can carry on with the job, and it allows for unforeseen circumstances.

There are always unforeseen circumstances when it comes to working off paper...

The EE that drew up the plans, or the estimator who bid the job should be determining this.
