Sond Problem in Compaq 702TU Notebook After XP Install

07/25/2009 12:27 AM

Hello! I have installed XP in my Compaq 702TU laptop. It alway disappears sound even tried to reinstall it doesn't work. Does this happen because I installed XP ? ( I guess mostly Compaq compatible with Vista.) or is there any method to fix this problem. Please advice. Jananjaya

Compaq junk...

Go find the sound drivers and install them. Next time buy a Dell.

Re: "Next time buy a Dell."

Worst advice I've ever heard. With Dell, you never know what components they have installed in your machine; they publish the specs and then reserve the right to change any or all components to anything they consider "equivalent." Hence the common response on tech expert sites to requests for help from Dell owners: "Dude, you bought a Dell!"

Sound is often a problem when installing an Operating system. CraziestOzzie is right, you have to get the correct driver either from Compaq or (better) the component manufacturer.

Dell, Vista, Compaq....all junk

Xp obviously has not the driver for your sound chip on the mobo.

Go to Compaq website and get the driver suited for your OS installed on your Laptop.

If Compaq want to give you a whole lot of software crap just to run sound, get the chipset of your sound device and get it straight from the chip manufacturer.

I recommend formatting your hard drive with a disk manager (best to have DOS type prog) if it has Compaq partitions software etc, get rid of them and reinstall XP...avoid all crap from Compaq to get your hardware running once you have an OS up and running.

Do the hard yards and get the correct software from hardware manufacturer for each hardware device seeking drivers etc to run.

Dont buy Compaq, Dell, Acer, ect. Building your own PC is the safest way to go for stability w/ new operating systems.

Vista makes XP look like a hunk of crap. Seriously Vista has way better visual features and the best Administrative tools for an OS that I have ever seen. I have been using it since it came out and have not looked back.

Quit clinging to your ancient hardware and software. Trust me Vista kicks some XP butt!!

control panel / administrative tools / device manager /

look for yellow symbols indicating trouble and or expand the sound device / attention to drivers and select update driver; be connected to internet, follow directions.

Sometimes is necessary to delete current driver reboot then update to correct driver.
