I see no reason why you cannot run purely fiber optic cable (class 6) in the same cable tray with power or signal cable trays. Now if your cable contains both fiber and copper wire, then I would expect the signal type in the copper would determine where that cable should be placed.

That assumes that your fiber signals distribute low power communication light and not some exotic high power laser light used for fusing deuterium pellets, punching holes in armor plating or removing errant entry vehicles.

Most of time, this is not allowed, due to the worker pulled the instrument cable may damage the fiber optic cable, so that is not related to signal interference, but the damage of the worker incarefulness. If you want to put them together, I would like to recommend to put warning label on the surface of fiber optic cable or put it on the top of instrument cables.

There is absolutely no problem, provided

* the cables have proper insulation particular to its function, &

* the cables outer plastic is of defining colour, to identify it. This is mainly for maintenance issues.

Hi there,

In SA you can run the two cables in the same trench provided that:

1. The cable sheath color is different and that the cables are distinctly marked

2. Both are armoured (We use SWA for the armour)

As we do not get the optic cable with SWA armouring - we have to get it armoured by a sperate company.

All the other usual trenching conditions then follow i.e. bed depth, lay covering etc etc.

Cheers

Craig

both the optical as well as instrumentation cable can be in the same trench, because optical fibre cable is inert for instrumentation signals and vice versa. optical fibre signals are in the form of light / optical signals, while instrumentation signals are electrical in nature

Running the Fiber Cable with the instrument cables in the same cable trench is O.K provide you must have some protection against the damages to your fiber optic cable.

Sometime, when the maintenance people wanted to remove out the instrument cable and accidentally pulls or bend your fiber optic cable then it will be a problem to it.

Mostly, we put the fiber optic cable in a PCV conduit and lay by the side of the cable trench and we also put some marker to indicate that this PVC pipe has fiber optic cable.
