Using Special Gates to Transmit Matter and Energy

12/11/2006 2:13 AM

We know the laws of matter and energy, a time is coming when things that seem impossible would be re-addressed. Taking a look at technology so far, we have managed to convey energy through wired and wireless (with some considerable loss and its impact on the environment) means. What about if we just jump space and move matter and energy from source to destination backwards. Is it possible?

Teleportation, or something like it is already being done in labs, on a very simple scale. I've read a few articles about it. You should be able to google up something.

I have really thought about it and i have even be developing a computer model to see its possibility. I would eventuall involve sub-space distortion without affecting normal space. This is my own perspective

Please contrast "sub-space" with "normal space," won't you? I'm sure the Earthlings on this thread would greatly appreciate your candor in this matter.

Normal space = open your eyes and look around!

Sub – space = ….erm…..well, I don't know!

Seriously, I think there's a lot of wishful thinking going on here, Gene Roddenberry has a lot to answer for! (Apart from inspiring so many millions of people of course)

It is the poster's concept of "normal space" that I'm interested in, not my own (and certainly not in a subjective "open your eyes and look around" sense). I'm particularly interested in how the poster plans to represent "normal space" in a mathematical or algorithmic sense as part of the computer program which the poster is presumably writing.

Edison, Tesla, the list goes on...

These men were dreamers and do-ers and accomplished the "impossible" in their respective times. We all need to keep dreaming and doing the "impossible" in OUR time. There is no limit to our imaginations and creativity. Keep on trying until our dreams become reality.

Just be careful and don't burn the house down ;-)

Most of Edison's doing was busy stealing other's work.

You got that right! The guy was not only a great inventor, but he was also a sleaze, a thief, a tyrant, and a liar. And he was extremely cruel to animals. It's a shame the bastard didn't electrocute himself in the process.

Re: Using Special Gates to Transmit Matter and Energy

Have you got any idea how much energy would be involved in converting matter to energy, transmitting it then converting it back to matter?. To start with lets look at it for say a person that weighs 70Kg. If you converted the person to matter you would have

EnergyPerson = mc2 = 70 x (3 x 108)2 = 6.3Ej

And that's just the energy that you would need to transmit. Now if we allow for the conversion process would need at least that much energy again. Then we need to allow for the transmission losses which is an inverse square law so lets say we are going to transmit it 100m. Then we need to convert the energy back into matter which would probably need that much energy again so that comes out to about

EnergyPerson x 3 ÷ 1/1002 = 190Zj

Now you may have noticed some funny symbols her like Ej and Zj, well Ej means Exa joules or 1018 and Zj means Zetta joules or 1021 joules. There is a good reason you have never seen these abbreviation before and that because the total demand for electricity around the world is about 4.0Tw or Tera watts or 1012 watts. That means if we used all the generators in the world running flat out it would take

190Zj / 4.0Tw = 47.5Gs

Which is about 1,500 years. Somehow I think it would be faster to walk the 100m rather that to use a transporter but hey where's the fun in walking. At least you have learnt a couple of useless bits of information like what the words Exa and Zetta mean.
