Gear Box Design

Dear sirs

I am working in engineering department and my company wants to start gear box designing and manufacturing. Please guide me on few things

1) Which books I should refer on transmission design (gear box)?

2) What are the general problem incured in a gear box design?

3)Which analysis and design software I should use?

I HAVE STARTED STUDYING A GEAR BOX RIGHT NOW

I hope you all can give me good inputs on this

1.Good book for gear box design is Handbook of Gear design by

Durley & Doodley (MC Graw hill publisher)

2.You must first know what power it should transmit & Speed Ratios.Gothru Above book.

And an excellent reference for gear mechanics is Analytical Mechanics of Gears by Earle Buckingham ISBN 0-486-65712-4. 540 pages of everything you'd ever want and not want to know about gears.

in my opinion you should check Geartrax & Solidworks.

Hi: there is a software: KISSSoft. It is not very hard to learn how to use it and give correction factors, different methodes of calculation and other features.
