Synchronizing Power Systems

08/02/2009 6:36 AM

Hi Members, I am facing a critical problem about synchronizing systems. Basically we are FG Wilson dealer in Bangladesh. One of our customer wants to synchronize with two FGW diesel + two CAT Diesel + one MTU Gas + Mains. Present condition of gensets; @. Only FGW genset presently synchronized with 6200Control panel. @. CAT genset presently mechanical governor and no synchronized. @. MTU Presently synchronized with Mains. I have suggested to customer as bellows; @. For FGW genset need to be changed by 6400 control panel. This panel is accepting synchronize with mains and up to 8 no's of genset. For alternator PF control module also required @. For CAT genset also we will be changed by 6400 control panel and governor will be converted to electronic by Woodward Sped controller and Actuator. For alternator PF control module also required. Would u please advice me what are the more modification required for synchronizing of following genset. Thanks Hanif

Hi Hanif,

You must check that your generators are capable of operating in parallel - there will be a specific mode which enables 'droop' in the governor. Droop is a method of allowing two generators to operate in parallel and share load. At least one generator will also require the ability to accept commands from the synchronizing relay to raise & lower speed and voltage.

Please make sure that 'pitch' of the windings of all generators is the same or very close to same, otherwise you will have objectionable (high) circulating currents.

Kind regards

Roman
