SS304 allowable stess in tensions

Hi

What is the max allowable stess in tensions for SS304 at 60 deg celcius?

As far as I am aware at temperature of 60 deg C you may take the normal room temperature properties of it.

To be precise, it is about 93% (approx of the standard (20 deg C) value.

Yep. I agree. 60 degC for steels are definitely not a problem or a special case. It is low enough to avoid any steel alloy to transform, precipitate, temper, etc. And, of course, high enough to prevent any alloy from reaching its low temp toughness transition (the temperature where the alloy starts showing a fragile behavior). Specially 304 series, austenitic structure, high ductility. Relax and enjoy.

Great answers by both prior posters.

First I would urge you to use Yield strength, not tensile. After yield stress is reached, the material is no longer in the same condition- its deformed... so performance is not predictable). So with no other facts given, I'd use yield strength, not tensile.

Second, Depending on the application and possible safety consequences, I would personally limit myself to 80% of the yield strength for the size(diameter) and section.

Some people would use 50% ( They are real conservative) some would use 90%.

The accuracy of the test procedure becomes a factor- is the certification yield stress accurate to 5%, 10%?

What kind of safety factor is reasonable for your application?

Again, good information from prior posters, I'm just trying to add a bit of specificity.
