Food Industry - Spice Mixing and Measuring Machine

08/04/2009 1:20 PM

Hi everyone,

I work for a company in southeast Michigan that is looking to have a machine built that can measure out 10 dry spice ingredients to be dropped into a clear coated bag and sealed. The spices are used as a salsa and multi-purpose Mexican seasoning sold in stores throughout Michigan.

Any recommendations for an engineering company that can help construct this would be greatly appreciated. And of course if there are any questions, please feel free to post. Our website is located here: www.auntnees.com

Thanks very much for your time.

A triangle or a multipond should do it.

triangle website is http://www.trianglepackage.com/

they are more pricey, a more resonable alternative would be Multipond

This guy David, was pretty helpful for multipond djones@synequip.com,

As Phoenix911 said Triangle does make a blender but you will pay...alot.

Heat and Control has a blending system that has been very successful and is considerably more reasonable than Triangle. http://www.heatandcontrol.com/eqmain.asp?eqid=53

Heat and Control also has a long history of custom applications so they would be worth getting a bid from.

Another option would be to contact Burghoff in Chicago. While his primary business is ice cream platter conveyors and lidder applicators, Casper can make anything.

Can you post:

Do you need to weight out these ingredients, or is volume OK?

There is an Consulting and Engineering Co in Central Pa that has done much work with us in the pill industry, at very high speeds.

I am sure he would not like me to put his contact information on the web, but if interested can send it directly to you.

We currently hand measure all of these ingredients... anywhere from 1/8 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon. Some ingredients (onion flakes, cilantro, etc) can come out in different shapes every time, so I'm thinking we would need to use weight and not volume due to random variation...

http://www.apecusa.com

I am sure this company can work that out for you.

We were looking into a system for pigments with weights ranging from .005 lb to 900 lbs in the same blend. They had the equipment.

Any company constructing weighing or packaging machines can do this. Have a look through the thomas or kelly directory for one in your area.

But exactly which kind of machine will work where we are using different density material mixed together. It will cause weight variation.

Depending on the volume of manufacture/ processing, you can use weight, volume or time. The speed of the powder can act as a liquid, so a timer can be used, contact food processing machine manufacturers in your area, I have seen all types made. The basic packaging machine is the same, just a different nozzle for catching the products.

experiences I have with using volume metric scales for accuracy may be questionable if its in small quality or spices it may not all be powder or dry?
