Hi -
Has anyone successfully attempted to make a gen-set using a used VW 1.6 litre (I think it's around 75 HP) diesel 4 cylinder engine as a prime mover?.
I've got an 1984 Jetta that's been taken off the road for about 10 years, but has a fairly good motor with 240,000 kms. The rest of the car has fallen to bits of rust.
It also serves as a fairly decent home for field mice and wasps.
I'm moving from the farmhouse where the car is located, but before I finish moving, and scrap the car, I'm asking - is it worthwhile removing the engine for such a noble purpose, and load down myself with yet another hobby/project.
This will be my yet to be completed hobby/project #57-021-EX.4
Me thinks that the biggest problem to solve would be the task of a governor hookup to maintain speed at 60 hz. @ 1800 rpm when loading down.
I'm an industrial electrician and can obtain a used or surplus properly sized generator for a song hopefully.
Any reasonable responses will be appreciated and considered - Thanx all - Loupy
