Paralleling Transformers

08/07/2009 6:32 PM

At the open point of Lt is it possible for the two sources to phase out and have different phase sequences.

Thank you

Unless the windings are astromically huge, no. You will still have the same phase entering the system as what is leaving the system, as long as you have just a transformer only with no outside influences such as switching etcetera. That's my uneducated two bobs worth

You are having two transformers is it?

The two LT lines may have a huge phase difference depending on connections (the Dyn Number) in Open condition (based on the windings) or minor difference when on load (based on winding impedances)

A few points on parallel operation of transformers

the polarity of the terminals must be the same

all transfomers must have the same ratio

the voltage ratings must be the same in all the transformers

the impedence must be the same or nearly so

the regulation must be identical in all unis

if the terminals which are joined together are of opposite polarity one or more of the windings will be damaged, because one transformer winding is short-circuited on the other.

have a great day.

no.

different phase sequence shall increase the circulating currents - causing short circuits./ burning of transformers.
