What lighting does the existing auditorium have now?

Can what is there just be moved?

Often Auditoriums also have a "Stage" so you may need to become familiar with the typical "Stage lighting" requirements.

An old standard reference for Film is The Lighting Directors Handbook, by David Quaid. Though this book is somewhat specialized, it does cover many general aspects of lighting. Certainly you may find any University Bookstore with a Drama Department, or Interior Design program will likely offer helpful references.

P.S. Typically in an Auditorium you will have "House Lights", and "Stage Lights" and Dimmers, and Lighting Boards are required for control. (Not clear on what you are doing, though under the impression you are renovating instead of building an entirely new facility.)
