I'll guess you mean the warning light on the dash.

This has changed so much over the years your owners manual (or some model year info) will be the best resource.

Since many monitor boost pressure, a running engine is required. After that the options are many.

It could be low on brake fluid. It could be that front , or rear brakes are worn. It could be many other things. Why would you post a message here before you checked the brake fluid level?

"why does the brake light of a car light up even though the handbrake is down"

BECAUSE SOME THING'S WRONG WITH THE BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may not know this, but brakes are pretty important. They save lives!

I hope you don't have children. If you do, don't haul them in this car till you find out what's wrong with the brakes!

Take it to the shop!

Fortunately, stupidity isn't contagious, but it may be hereditary.
