In a boiler steam drum is the part with highest pressure. In order to pump the boiler feed water which is at low pressure , a pump is required which is called boiler feed pump. As principle is conerned, it is a centrifugal pump.
Boiler feed pump is part of a closed loop, steam from the boiler after doing work is condensated back to water, and the boiler feed pump returns that water to the boiler to be again be turned into steam, any lose of water ( water condensened from the steam, which shows up as a drop in boiler water level ) is made up to the system from a reserve water tanks.
