can some one brief the method of reducing the sulphur dioxide emission from the boiler flue.

the boiler is fired with heavy oil having sulphur percentage of 3.8%.

Select a fuel that has a lower percentage of sulphur. What is not present in the fuel cannot burn!

Both oxides of sulphur, SO2 and SO3, are gases at flue temperatures and pressures. Once present, they can be removed from flue gases by scrubbing processes. The equipment is really only suitable for major facilities, and it is emission regulations at those installations that may drive the installation of this type of equipment.

As already told that the best solution is to change the fuel with low sulfur.

A scrubber can reduce SOx emmission but cost of plant and operation would be too high.

As already stated, the best solution is to eliminate the cause of the problem.

Any common method of reducing the SOx emissions results in a product that you will have to deal with. Usually gypsum (from treatment with CaCO3 or CaOH slurry in a spray tower) or Sulfuric acid (from passing flue gas through a cleaner, dryer, heater then a catalyst to convert to SO3 followed by concentrated (93%) Sulfuric Acid resulting in a stronger Sulfuric Acid).
