I don't know what ETAP is, but typically one uses a lumped load as a simplifying approximation of the real, distributed load.

what is ETAP ?

NORMALLY, WE USE 'LUMPED LOAD' TERM AS THE TOTAL LOAD ON A SPECIFIC TERMINAL.

E.G. DURING TESTING OF DG SET, WE USE VARIABLE WATER RESISTORS ACROSS THE DG TERMINALS, WE CALL THAT AS A LUMPED LOAD.

ETAP - Electrical Transient Analysis Program.

It is the software for power system study - load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, Stability study, Protective Device Coordination, Motor Acceleration Analysis, Harmonic Analysis etc. It is one of mostly used power system study tools in electrical engineering.

For details, visit:

www.etap.com

In ETAP, there is a tool called 'Lumped Load' in the Edit Tool bar, along with many other tools (like Bus, Motor, Cable, Utility, Transformer, CB etc.) to drag and drop it in the One Line Diagram (OLD) edit area to build the OLD. This tool is used to add 'Lumped Load' (as described by other participants earlier) in ETAP OLD. Building OLD is the first thing in ETAP to do to start any other analysis.
