Electrical Test Fixture

12/14/2006 8:40 AM

We need test a 37-pin device with the pin length at 0.025", pin diameter at 0.010", pin to pin distance is about 0.05", but can not find a vendor who can manufacture a proper fixture for it, the fixture should be able to clamp the pin but do not damage the pins, anybody have any idea about this?

What kind of device is this? The device vendor will be able to help you - they test their products all the time.

Why not make two of the same PC boards, with your spacing requirements, gold plate them, and provide a ribbon cable interface to the rest of your test equipment. The PCboards would be arranged to "bite" onto the pins with spring downforce controlling the pressure of contact. There would need to be guide pins to ensure parallel "bite" and reference stop to ensure correct alignment.

(You didn't say how many items are required to be tested, which will relate to life-expectancy of the test-jig; and you also didn't mention the testing rate)

Your best bet is to design it yourself so it will fit to your standards it might take some time but it will be worth it.

What does it normally mate with? You can use this to create a functional test or hack the connectors to create an automatic test equipment interface. You might need to give some thought to sacrificial connectors.

I would connect a female end to it and strip it to allow access to the conductors. A neat little trick I've found for testing the female connectors is to clamp my alligator clips on to a paper clip. It has a smaller diameter than the average test lead and seams to read accurately.

Have you a drawing?

As you say you can wait for the counterpart of your device and test it with it. For sure it will not be design for mass production and you wil have to design a way to replace it easy.

I think the same companny that make the conterpart will be able to make a high volume connector device.

Whoever company that develope fixture will need drawings and for sure they will start with the counterpart of your device :).

Best regards!
