Power Evacuation

08/22/2009 7:51 AM

A 10 MW Wind Generation plant is delivering power at 33 Kv level. It is connected to a 33 Kv feeder eminting from a 132/33 Kv s/s, feding 2 no.s of 33/11 Lv substations. If in case the load requirement is very low on 11 Kv side than the power delivered by the Wind Plant what will happen ?

It should back feed up to the 132 KV system and out to the nearest loads that can use the available power.

It will trip the reverse power relay if one is installed in this feeder section.

Make sure that the utility company knows about this as their protections might be affected and their maintenance crew at risk if they think the line is isolated from their side but you feed power from the other side.

If the power consumption drops, then no extra power will be delivered, since the current draw decreases and your voltage regulator (required and mantatory as well as a phase sync. device) will keep the generator from rising the output voltage, thus running the wind plant at a lighter mechanical and electrical load.
