My Computer

08/23/2009 4:47 AM

Hi.

On another PC, when you double click C drive in My Computer, it opens up a search window. If you right click it, the search comes up as the default option, with 'open' below. As far as I know it is something with the registry? What would I need to change to get the 'open' as the default option?

It's on XP Home SP3.

Thanks in advance, Bondy111

Had that happen once.

You need to use regsvr32 (built in command) ad re-register windows explorer.

Grumble not sure of the file name now. (explorer.exe)?

You need the full path and file name for this including the drive letter.

In a cmd window type

regsvr32 "complete file name"

So you type regsvr32 "explorer.exe" into command prompt?

Or you can go to ctrl panel / folder options / search / reset to default

I go to folder options, but cannot find the search. There is General. View, and File Types. In the view tab, all the options are the same as on my computer, and my pc does not have the same problem.

It says that Explorer is found, but it is not the right file type

Sorry for the delay, I had to dig this up again

The correct command is

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

You need to cd to the directory where shell32 exists to use this form of the command
