One Controlled Flying Object

08/25/2009 5:40 AM

Hi all

I was gone out west for a few days and some one tried to show me a video on a dial up connection. It was very slow and I did lose patients with the matter at hand. Now, back home, I was able to see it in real time. I thought to share this one with you. Please explain?. How can this be done? I am amazed what some young ones can come up with. For me at least a 9 out of 10. If I would be the dad he would have my support any day. What do you think?

I hope the link works, just seems a bit odd. Have a go, Ky.

Me again. I tried the link (on CR4) but it does not connect and my knowledge of computers is beating me. If some one could do this step for me, it would be appreciated. I did go to properties and copied and pasted but something has gone wrong and I wish that you could see this footage.

Sorry about my incompetence, Ky.

You did a copy and paste from the file location on your hard drive. You needed to copy and paste from the actual site location. Now everyone knows where you store your downloaded files from the internet. Hmm... what's this file I see in there... those don't look like bi-planes...

I am innocent and new to computers. Got a bit more than a hint? What have I done?

I think I just saw a flying pig or was it.............

Please educate me, Ky.

Thanks mate. So is it Firefox that causes this? If it would not be so good I would not even worry, know what I mean? Thanks, Ky.

Hi Ky,

Is this the one you are meaning;

http://www.wessexstrut.flyer.co.uk/members/vid_semi_gritter_freestyle_sm.wmv

If it isn't, it is still some neat, precision flying.

Cheers, Bob

Thanks AussieBob

U bute. That's the one. Is he good or what? Soft wing flying? I did delta wing in 1976 and it was just translated from a drawing to a flying "thing". I nearly killed my self and found that with no engine, I'd be in trouble in no time at all. And now this! With an engine and no worries (seemingly) at all. I find this a very exceptional performance of flying skill, not to mention the use of engineering at its best. I have been good friends of model airplane designers and have come costumed to their skill and determination of not destroying there baby. In my eyes they were true masochist but they love what they are doing. I take my hat any day for these engineers and entusiatsts.

This achievement in control and dedication should be shown to all. Maybe it is (?), but I'm not up to date. Having looked at it again 10 out of 11 is my score and I would like to meet the young man my self, one day.

Thanks again for making a spread of things, Ky.

That was spectacular. Thanks!

Is there anything we can't do with machines? I'm still trying to figure out how some of those trick were done. Amazing!!!

That blew me away just like the first time I saw these Ornithopters. or this one.

After watching the show there I realized that the motor is reversible and that the wings were able to rotate on the centerline axis. using the combination of the wings and motor and the overpower of the motor to weight the actions are very do-able. I think his routine is great and definitely an 11 out of 10.

I am dumb struck!

Flying backwards vertically up. But for the audience I wwould have thought some trick was being put on. Words fail.

11 out of ten is more like it.

Thanks.

Granted this RC plane is probably made out of Balsa wood, but would that be possible on lets say a Cessna?

If you were to put a reverse gear on the motor to propeller shaft, bring the plane up to a stall, reverse the propeller direction, go into a dive, bring prop speed to max rpm...

There must have been some crazy pilot who has tried this. No searches came up so I guess they didn't live to tell about it.

Re: One Controlled Flying Object

We have variable pitch props that can be run into beta for additional breaking on larger airframes. Taking the stops out of the prop to allow for full reverse thrust would allow the stop at the top of the loop. Without the ability to rotate the wings I don't think the full actions of the routine could not be duplicated. The reverse thrust would also cause a cooling problem for the aircraft engine of normal design. I think a Pitts would be more to the weight to HP required to make the stunts do-able. Cessna airframes are too heavy for the HP to hang on the prop.

Would have to be experimental class here in the US and totally aerobatic with modifications that the FAA would go nuts over.
