How to select the cooling tower?

  • The cooling load and its duty cycle
  • Local atmospheric conditions: minimum/average/peak temperatures and humidities
  • Minimum process temperature required
  • Available footprint for the tower and pumps
  • Proximity to centres of population
  • Local noise legislation
  • Distance from cooling load and support for the piping
  • Local water analysis
  • Availability of power during the duty period
  • Location of water dosing specialists and availablility of chemicals
  • Maintenance demands
  • Local planning and building consents
  • Level of on-board technical support
  • Availability and loading of other systems
  • Distribution network calculations
  • Technical backup from supplier's offices locally
  • Degree of shade available at chosen location
  • Vegetation at chosen location
  • etc...

4 things:

-Range

-Approach

-Wet bulb, and

-GPM

Some manufacturers, like Baltimore Aircoil, have selection software you can access on line. For example, see www.baltimoreaircoil.com/english/products/ct/index.html?page=std

If you need to know about 'Range', 'Approach' etc. see www.expertctr.com/ch_1.php

There are many types of towers available. Some may be unsuitable for your application. Check www.expertctr.com/ch_17.php

A knowledgeable sales rep would be a great resource.
