Storage Tank Maintenance Software

08/30/2009 12:22 AM

I am wondering if there are any introductory freeware software packages specifically set up for tank maintenance.

I would like to store all the physical tank data for the plant at my site, and then set in place a routine maintenace and inspection programe.

Any ideas?

Kenneth

Hi Ken,

I am sure CHH and Graham Hart could do better than relying on freeware maintenance packages for their plants!

We developed a MS Access application for valve maintenance of every valve on a steam power plant for every station on the grid. It maintained a historical as well as future prediction for future outage opportunities. It takes a bit of effort up front but lets you define the content for your particular needs and without some of the useless components of commercial packages. We have since packaged it as a commercial saleable application. I am sure you can convince management to allocate some time for you to develop such a valuable tool - Maybe you could sell it to the CHH other plants and recoup some or all costs.

Hi. I appreciate your comment. We run Maximo as a CMMS on the Kawerau site - but the tank data is not in it (yet).

All data (that is known) is on a giant spreadsheet, which is cumbersome to say the least. The available data was put together by my ABB predecessor but is very much incomplete. Being a newbie (I have been with Transfield a very short time) my intent is to get all the tank physical data from the spreadsheet into Maximo. I did start writing my own Access db but thought that in the interim I could get something running very quick for no cost.

I am interested in your comment about a valve package. Can you supply me with some info/cost etc. Happy to supply my email address so we can do this off-forum.

I have some other activities going to get plant data into Maximo (steam traps, pumps, motors, NCG equipment, pressure vessels etc) complete with lube routines and routes. The lack of hard technical information, with all the associated PMs and history is very much a surprise here. It seems we have a giant work order recording system, and this is of concern.

I managed to get Howard Turner from Idcom onto site last week - just for the day. He was also surprised about the very "skinny" Maximo system. I am trying to convince the management to carry out a full and formal maintenance and reliability audit to establish where we are, and where we want to be; then carry out a gap analysis to see how to get there. I am prepared to spill blood to get this, but I have fears it will founder on the Too Hard or No Funds Available shoal.

Anyway - good talking with you. Are you in the power generation sector?

regards

Freeware is great for start up's on a new invention of sorts but if you are in a ligit buisness try buying a good program. Freeware is Freeware and is not reliable and is not good for updates. Ask people what they are using and how it fits into their enviorment. That will save you a lot of headackes now and in the future spend a couple of bucks and it will save you $ in the end.
