Call in at PC World and discuss it with someone there?

It seems that a tv coder is for watching tv on your puter. I want to take content from the internet and transport it wireless to my new Olevia 542. Thanks

You need to check out some of the blogs I have posted recently.

Home Network Streaming with Media Center

Review: Popcorn Hour A-110 & Popcorn Hour C-200

The Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and my personal choice the Popcorn Hour among other devices can stream your videos from your PC to your TV. These options will set you back about $200 for a device such as the Xbox or Popcorn Hour.

I also posted a blog series about many of the different types of video formats that can be streamed.

If you have any other specific questions I would be glad to help you get set up.

Thanks I read your blog about the popcorn, but I didn't think it applied to wireless. I'll read it again. Thanks

Depending on the speed of your network you may run into stuttering issues if you streaming 1080p videos wirelessly. This is why I run an ethernet cord from one room to the other.

For most content you will have no problems.

Popcorn Hour makes a $37 wireless adapter but I think you can use any USB wireless adapter.

Yes the Popcorn Hour's main function is streaming from your PC.

It doesn't come with any storage but has a bay for you to put in your own hard drive which makes it much more versatile and upgradable down the line.

I don't currently have a hard drive in mine so streaming is the main function of it.

It also plays YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and more with the a program called PlayOn.

What make model TV or connection configurations of said TV?

A TV tuner Card is about the simplest and comparable to the least expensive.

I use a PS3...wires are cheap and oh so dependable...

Before dedicating to wireless peruse the topic "WhiteSpaces (radio)

If your PC has A/V outputs, then you only need a Wireless Transmiter to your TV.

Check item #265308. is under 80 bucks.

Have you tested this out?

According to the link you sent it comes with RCA patch cable. That means you won't be able to transmit any HD signals over this device.

There are wireless HDMI devices that will do HD but they are usually around $400.

The original poster is not asking for an HD transmition device, that's why I started my post saying: "If your PC has A/V outputs..." which are known to be composite signals.

And besides he is asking for the cheap way, and the cheapest way is to set the resolution on his new TV to accept composite video input.

And yes, I've tested and it works great, actually you hardly can tell the difference, unless you try hard. Anyways, it's up to him to make a choice (price VS resolution).

I do want hd. I wanted to do it wireless because of the distance(40ft) between them. However it looks like the popcorn or ps3 will be the best way

There are a few media device for that.

First one is Apple TV. You're limited to iTune playable media unless you hack it. It has internal harddrive so you can turn off your computer.

For other players you can check here: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProdList&cmd=pl&id=VID.978

You don't need to buy from them but atleast you can check the brand and model and try to find it somewhere local.

Hi,

About a year and a half ago when we bought a new TV we also bought a new DVD player (for like 70 bucks) that can play older DVDs at higher quality (for HD viewing). Well anyway, the DVD player also has a USB input where you can plug in a storage device. If you can copy the movie to a portable external hard drive you could plug that in and watch it that way.

Good Luck.

What are the various, if more than one, inputs on your TV? There should be a way to take a video card output and wire to the appropriate input on your TV.

If your TV does not have multiple inputs then maybe you have a spare input on a DVD or VCR and you can route through to your TV.

Or maybe there is some type of audio/video switcher you can put behind the input to your TV and connect both feeds and just do the old manual switch for which source you want.

Just make sure the signals are compatible if not the same.. such as S-video to S-video, DVI to DVI, HDMI to HDMI, etc...

EDIT: I just noticed the wireless part.. well set up a laptop with wifi connection next to your TV and do the same thing mentioned above..

EDIT2: Well I suppose I should read the whole post before posting :) some of the other ideas are great also. I personally bought a HD TV with a ton of inputs from DVI to composite s-video, etc and have a second DVI output on my video card that I connected to the TV and just switch to the PC DVI source when I want video from the PC. I also connected audio to my reciever/amp and do the appropriate source select there for audio.

For me a 20 foot RGB cable from monitor to tv seems to work just fine. Don't know about 40/2x20...but don't see why not.

I could use a 50' DVI but decided Ethernet to the TV was fine too, if the TV has a tuner
