QuickTime Slow Down

09/02/2009 8:18 AM

No, QuickTime is not really slowing down, at least not that I can tell; it's something else.

Anyone out there ever have this problem with Olympus camera?

You've used the Olympus video (tv camera icon) feature to shoot a "moving picture" clip or two, but during/after downloading to PC, you notice that the clips are formatted in Quick Time (for Apple's).

So now you want to open a clip with a PC-resident application (say for movie making, burning, playback) but Windows applications such as Movie Maker, Media Player. etc, display that they are not able to open Quick Time formatted clips.

If so, how do you get around the problem?

A program that will convert QuickTime to Windows compatible?

Does QuickTime spftware upgrade (for a price rather than free) contain any conversion program?

Does my camera perhaps have a setting/option for saving in other than QuickTime format that I somehow not been able to find.

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated...as I am trying to prepare a legal exhibit clip that is portable to other than just apple computers or computers running Quick Time.

My Olympus camera model is C-725 (700 series) Ultra Zoom.

Again, thanks to all.

Have a look at VLC media player. It plays practically everything and records practically everything (once you understand what to do) and providing you have the required codecs (in this case you already have them) you will have no problem and won't have the extra rubbish that slows you down that pervades typical apps like WMP and QT.

I doubt you have alternative software choices other than QT offered by your camera's manufacturer...they would be sleeping in the same bed. You do have alternative as to what media player plays QT movies and I hope the one I gave you solves your problem.

Thanks for the VLC tip CraziestOzzy. I myself have an Olympus FE-280 that I am progressively learning how to use and transmit things from.

What does WMP, and QT, stand for?

Is QT, Quick Time?

I have a Mac now. Since I hardly know what I am doing and often revert to the WAG method: "Wild Ass Guess." It is a wonder I still get through or accomplish much of anything.

I do read all computer posts and suggestions on this forum with great interest, and appreciate the generosity of people such as yourself who share bits of information about how to make these typewriters work, and do more.

WMP - Win Media Player

QT - QuickTime

Hello,

I have Olympus and the software gives a provision to save the file in anyone of about eighty formats fifty or sixty of which most PC's if a video platform (windows media player for example) is enabled and the saved file type corresponds to that enabled in the video platform.

Save as WPL or WMV a default format for windows video or in media player setup just enable all file types for play back
