Inserting Model Views with SolidWorks 2006

12/19/2006 12:30 PM

I am working with Solidworks 2006 and have found that an option appears to be missing. Particularly, when working with a drawing file, I am trying to insert a particular view. I have the part file open in a certain orientation and wish to insert that view into the drawing.

In sldwks 2004 there was a simple option available under the insert model views comand where you could insert the "current model view".

That ability appears to be missing from '06. I was hoping if anyone who knows the program could point out how it is done in sldwks '06, or confirm that the option is in fact unavailable.

In the model file, arrange your view, right click and select view orientation. Then click the new view icon and give it a name. You can then reference that view name when creating a new model view or editing an existing model view in the drawing. However, current model view is still available if you right click on the model view, go to properties, and select "in use" view properties.

In addition to the previous answer, after you create a customized view in your 3D model, you can select it while inserting the model in the drawing, by just recalling its name.

It doesn't need to be an "active view". Just indicate your customized view name.
