Pressure Vessel designing?

09/05/2009 2:49 AM

How are pressure vessels designed (pressure vessels used for filtration using pressure-membrane filters)? what are the important factors considered during designing pressure vessels & its material selection? ........is there any need for considering flow rates while making calculations for the thickness? pls provide the formulae for the calculation of thicknesses?..........

A pressure vessel for high pressure membrane filtering must have the strength to contain, with the appropriate safety factor and over pressure relief valves, the working pressure. The filter bed must be supported with a fine grain support that is also strong enough to maintain the working pressure above to the low pressure (ambient) beneath it.

It also needs the means to open and change filters, and reclamp, in a reasonable time.

this search should provide data for you, so drill down as many pages as you need to gather information.

This is not a task for an amateur, pressure vessls like this must be made to ASTM standards and be tested annually or so. This will show people who use them

and here is ASTM

• Full design of a pressure vessel may be need 100 pages or more, but the attached file indicates a calculations for Shell, Head, and Nozzle: Pressure_Vessel_Design__shell_head__nozzle

• Another Sample of pressure vessel calculation: Sample_Vesel_Calculations

• A lot of free download handbooks here: Pressure Vessels

Just remember that this is a task for a qualified professional that must undersign the design. You should pay someone to do so, so, its no worth do the design yourself. This is a legal requirement.
