Cylinders for speaker cabinets rather than boxes

06/15/2005 7:32 AM

Since speakers are round, why aren't there more round "commercial" speaker cabinets? Other than the fact it could "roll away", and tales of horrible "standing waves", I can find no math formulas for using a cylinder. No "cubic air" guidelines, but plenty of software for rectangles and cubes. Has anyone tried a "high end", non-cardboard type of enclosure, besides a "sub-woofer"?

Bose

I had a nice set of Bose Speakers. They actually have a couple of miles of acoustical "piping" for sound quality. Most malls have a Bose sound booth, the explain the technology fairly well. Here is a nice technical document from the Bose website.
