Generator Load Analysis

09/07/2009 8:19 PM

I'm somewhat confused about the NAVIC 2-89 equation for determining duty factors when talking about connected power to acutual power. Does this reflect the effeciency of the motor or actual load?

What is NAVIC 2-89 equation? I am curious about this equation.

While worked in an offshore FPSO project for a client, I found they calculated the continuous load using an equation which considers BHP of motor, efficiency, demand factor etc. If you write down the equation, I might have the answer.

If you would like, I would email you the whole set of regs. as it has to do with USCG while SNAME & others set the standards. In any case, the formula is based on what you mentioned resulting in operating kw/rated kw x hrs in operation/24 hours which is the duty factor used. What confuses me is how would you know the operating kw of every load without measuring it?

Thanks,

Jim
