PC Date Keeps Resetting

09/09/2009 1:02 AM

My pc date keeps on ressetting to 2002 from the current date. It ressets after a few minutes i have set it to 2009, this is affecting some of my softwares that are failing to open not untill i correct the date to 2009 and re-enter their serial numbers. Th time remains un affected, during the date resseting i.e from 2009 to 2002, it appears on the mornitor as if i have right clicked and selected refresh and it hangs for some few seconds then back to normal. My CMOS battery appears to be ok because if it wasn't i would have noticed that during start up.

Thanks.

Are you sure your office isn't within the Bermuda Triangle, or you PC coupled to a time machine?

Is your battery flat? This can cause date and other things to drop out to default settings.

No my cmos battery dosn't seem to be flat, it's just fine but i just can't tell why this is happening. Unless when the cmos battery is loose in it's socket, i will have to check on that.

thanks.

I have many times found that replacing a battery solves many problems, even when the battery being replaced measures full voltage. It's a cheap solution - not much lost if it doesn't work...

what is the date format you are using? MM/DD/YYYY ? Should cause the proper date to appear.

Some viriuses are doing that and stealing info when the files reset and are stored.

Were you playing in the BIOS settings lately? Try going into your BIOS and see what it shows as the date.

Are you using any illegal copies of any software? Sometimes the installation of the illegal copies of software can require that the computer has a certain date set. I don't know if it would try to change the date without user input though but is a possibility.

Also have you checked for viruses? Maybe your system has become infected with some virus that keeps trying to change the date.

I've never had the date change while using a computer but have had it lose its date information when unplugged due to the motherboard battery being dead.

Thanks gents,

I do not have any illegal software am using because i have been using these softwares for some time without any defects, it's just i was using Mcafee antivirus and i had to disable it in order to install some software that it was recognising as amalware, but that was some few days ago. After disabling the anti virus the pc started to misbehave for example it couldn't shut down by it's self i had to just plug it out of the mains, after realising that, i had to re-install new operating system but no anti virus at the moment, every thing is fine except the date resseting, the date format am using is DD/MM/YYYY. Should i give a try to put an antivirus and make a system scan? Could this help?

VERMIN the BIOS settings are fine because i even tired to set the date during start up but it again had to go back to default.and also i tried to replace the abattery but it was the same.

Will be back to after i have done this.

Thanks.

Hey,

I managed to solve the prob, i had to reinstall my mcafee and everything went back to normal after a complete scan, so it was a virus that kept on resseting my date. Thaks guys for your sharing.

Good day.
