Actually, you do not need to use any formula to calculate the current carrying capacity of the aluminum or copper conductor. It all written in the data sheet of the cable manufacture.
On the left side of the data sheet is the conductor sizes and on the right side of the data sheet is the current carrying capacity of the conductor.
Just make sure you read the correct data sheet according to the applied voltage. Different voltage give you different current carrying capacity of the conductor.
