Power Plant Auxiliary Load Control

09/10/2009 11:06 AM

we are running a 6mw biomass based power plant operating parallel with grid.kindly tell me how the plant auxiliary load varies with grid frequency.what are thepossible process to minimise the auxiliary load to about 10%of generated power. we are using abb make vfd for id,fdfans ,cw,acw pumps.

kw varies with 3rd power to RPM. So when your grid frequency varies so that RPM varies so that UNIT consumption.

It's Really excellent question,

first Your should have energ Audit for each machine.

Lighting Load:

1st concentrate on lighting load it's around 10% on your auxiliary load.at Boiler areas generally the people use high wattage lights. Now a days low wattage high Lumens CFL and LEd lamps are available. You may have the high initial cost but those are low wattage and low maintenance you will get =50% power savings on lighting Load,(Use energy saving power factor correction panels for power savings).

Usage Of water

Every power plant having canteen and wash areas. Canteen dishwash water and hand wash water collect and reuse (it should be retreated) the same. You know here you will save around 700 KL water per annum and around 10000 Units per annum savings.

My Suggestions:Use waterless urinals for urinals , if any plantation are ther use drip irrigation system.

Maintenance

For controlling of instrumentation you may use the compressed air, Check the leakages. There is a chance of power wastage, because the compressor is rotated by the electrical motor.

Perform the proper preventive maintenance for all machinary through this you will reduce the Down time and power wastage.

Awareness

Awareness is required to all employees on energy wastage.Conduct the sudden energy audits in the entire plant for Computors, fan's,A/c's and lights.Display the slogans "When not in use please switch off them."

you are using VFD's for the couple of machines.

Will be back with some more,

"Energy is monergy let us save it"
