What's the Best Type of Air Conditioner?

09/15/2009 1:33 AM

Dears,

Can anyone explain me that which Air Conditioner unit is better Split or Window? Someone told me that Window AC is better as the Split unit is complicated and not easy for maintenance.

I use air conditioning year round, so the units don't last too long. Window units are convenient to clean and service. When they are done, you just chuck the whole thing out in one easy package.

I have considered split units, they are a little quieter, some are more energy efficient, and cosmetics and security are better. Split units have to be installed by a professional installer, they tend to cost a lot, and if you get a noisy or drippy one, you're stuck with it until it wears out.

The most important thing to me to look for in any unit is condensate water control. Split units drain it right away, check with users of installed units to see which models drip after a while. That's a real pain, and once they get slow to drain, service calls can get to be a real hassle.

Whenever I buy a window unit, I remove the front right in the store. Usually there is a display model, so insist on seeing the inside of the front. Look at how much room there is for water at the bottom of the evaporator coils. Dust will build up there and cause the unit to overflow. I avoid styrofoam drain areas, look for plastic or metal drain pans. If you can see the location of the drain to the back, that's good. You will need to get at that later when the unit stops up with dust.

Window units send the condensate to the back to be evaporated by the condensate coil. The fan slings the water up and onto the coils from the inside. After a while it all corrodes away, and you need an new unit. If you open the drain to let the condensate go out, you will get less efficiency, but maybe slower corrosion.

It also depends on the required capacity of the unit. Window units are typically rather small, but split systems can be much larger, such as for cooling a number of rooms or a large room. Split systems require insulated field piping (or tubing) between the evaporator and the condensing unit, so there is extra labor and increased chance for leaks.

It is the mis-conception that the maintainance of split units is difficult. The selection of the units depends on the following factors:

1. capacity.

2. Your interior design.

3. cost.

4. Energy efficient(Star rated A/C units)

Mainly the split units are much more compact & enery efficient than the window units. The only problem that arise is routing of drain & refrigerant pipes, if this is taken care the split units are the best option. Even you can fit drain kit to your split unit so that the drain pipe does'nt require gravity for flow, which ease your routing problem.

Hope u go it, if not reply to me.

To a point made above, there are several window air conditioners available today that are energy star rated and have the ability to cool down a large, multi-room area.

Both types of air conditioner will do a fine job cooling down an area, but Window Air Conditioners are certainly easier to install, figuring your home has windows capable of holding this type of unit.

I suggest checking out http://www.best-air-conditioner-reviews.com, which has a great explanation on what to look for when buying an air conditioner with some nice product recommendations.

Window units can typically be easier to install and maintain due to the inherent accessibility features of them. With today's technology and improvements in energy efficiency for window units, it is a more and more viable option for most people today. However, window units can be quite unsightly depending on your personal standards. Split units I believe is usually the more sounder and attractive investment and, in my opinion, offer the greatest quality and perhaps contribute to an overall better energy performance when considering the volume of rooms a split unit can cool. Sometimes though, depending on the room, it can simply be much more cost effective to save on the installation of a split unit and use a window unit. The company I work for, called ABS Air Conditioning, is in Clearwater area of Florida. With the relentless summers here, you can expect a window unit to run a great deal of the time in order to keep a room cool throughout the day. It all really depends on the room you are looking to cool, whether the installation is feasible for a split unit, the size of the room and the volume of air that you desire to be cooled, the environment and climate of your area, and above all, the amount of money you are willing to invest. Take care. Wes

Wall A/C is one of the of the most popular air conditioners. There are many brands that provide wall air conditioners to the customers and it is popular among the people because of its uses and benefits. It is compact and is very much suitable for small living spaces such as the bedroom or the living room. The power usage is relatively economy .The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your wall air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters.

There are basically two types of air conditioners. i.e., window and split air conditioner. Choosing which one is best for your use depends upon different conditions of your room. Selecting anyone without evaluating the conditions can result in overcooling or undercooling of the room. The selection of AC depends upon the following factors:

  1. Size of the room
  2. Windows in the room
  3. People living in the room
  4. Stuff kept in the room
  5. Electrical appliances running in the room
  6. Walls of the room facing sun

Considering these conditions, you must evaluate that what capacity is suitable for your room and selection of type depends upon the location of your room. If the room has a wall which separates the room from outside, then you can install window AC in that wall but if your room is sandwiched between rooms and have no outside contact then you should use split AC. Window AC makes some noise so if you want your room to be quiet then you must go for split AC which is very quiet.

I've had window windows all my life because, as you said, they are easier to install and more accessible with them. The split system is much heavier there than in others, so that the installation will be expensive.

The best air conditioner is usually determined by the space to be conditioned and the type of dwelling it is and location is also important....that's why you hire the best A/C man you can find, because he knows all these things...smart people always save money by hiring a qualified licensed professional...
