Electronic Suspended Solids Measuring Device

12/21/2006 2:35 PM

I am looking for some type of handheld or portable electronic device that will measure the amount (%) of suspended solids (assorted plastic materials) in a water based coolant. The device doesn't have to be extremely accurate but the response time needs to be fast. In other words I don't want to take a sample and dry it or centrifuge it to get a solids reading. The particle size is variable and ranges from 200 to 5 microns.

Density measurement:

Also, a volumetric and a mass flowmeter combination could give you density measurements.

Turbidity meter would probably be you best bet, hopefully your coolant is fully transparent. If colored,(Ethylene Glycol?) you will have to take the clean coolant reading and extrapolate. If you are worried, these suspended particles are fairly easy to get rid off. I use absolute filter for our HDPE tube extrusion production.

Wangito.
