Motor Configurations and Loads

if i connect 5 KW motor in star or delta.how much motor take current in no load and load.plz expalin in both case in star and delta?

The point under consideration is very interesting, however, it will need an elaborate discussion from many aspects. Summarily it is to be considerred that:

• Motora are designed to operate either in star or delta. Most LV Motors are Delta connected.

• In cases where there are questions of availibility of sufficient MVA from the Generator ( in case of Captive Generation ) or the Transformer the connection is made in Star and changed over to Delta for reduction of starting current.

• No load current of a motor depends on its design to meet the Torque and RPM demand. Load current is given on the name plate and no load current is to be found from the Routine test report. The phase current is same as line current in case of Star connection and is 1⁄√3 in case of Delta.
