Carbon nano-tube manufacturing process

12/23/2006 10:48 PM

Dear Friends

I am looking for a reliable Carbon nano-tube manufacturing process. I can also buy reliable material if manufactured to my specifications. If you have any known manufacturer of Carbon nano-tube assembly then I will welcome the reference. My idea is to explore the nano-tubes for sensor development and hence even small size nano-tubes of Carbon arranged in an array may be OK as long as they have uniform pores.

The current reliable manufacturing process is CVD.The process is carried out in a CVD at a temp of 700degC.The growth requires NH3 or N2 or H2 & carbon containing gas.

Dear Dr. Sreenath

Do you have experience with specific chemical vapor deposition process. Any published reference regarding the processes involved and care to be taken? 700C is not much, and using N2 may be easier but H2 and NH3 may be a problem for us. What is the best choice for Carbon containing gas. Any details of pressure, flow rate, base material selection?

Thanks for writing in details. Are you in research lab or university? where? Is it possible to have some hand's on experience in this area. I am now in India but can travel anywhere on the earth.

Read CVD as CVD furnace.

Can you give more details of what your prototype system is and what it produces in terms of carbon nano-tubes. My idea is to form the nano tubes on specific base material for manufacturing of sensors. If you can define the properties of your carbon nano tubes - like length, dia, ash contents then it will be more appropriate for me to judge the usefulness for my application. It is not the quantity but for an application I am looking for such material.
