Unit of Measure for Volume Flow Rate of Gas

09/25/2009 1:50 PM

In the volume flow rate measurements which type of unit must be used: either "ml/min" and "cc/min" or there are some differences ?

Please say something about what is flowing. Read your previous post.

Yes... Please clarify. Depends on how you intend to use the numbers, and how many unit conversion you wish to do.

Isn't a cc and a milliliter the same thing?

I don't want to split hairs, but a cc of water only exactly equals a ml at 4 degrees C.

I know we're talking about gas here, but............................

I must disagree. mL and cc (cubic centimeter) are BOTH units of volume. I would agree that 1 mL/cc of water weighs 1 gram at 4ºC.

I stand corrected. You are right!

My humble apologies for misspeaking. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Whoops, I'm talking about liquids here...
It all really depends on what is accepted by the relevant industry.
I customary use mls/min, L/h is commonly used for the same size of pump.
Just chill and go with the flow, it's not much effort to convert....

Hmm when I measure gas flow it is not ml/min, it is million standard cubic feet per day, and it is ususally many millions.... the other option is standard cubic meters per hour, and ususally lots of them too...

In the gas leakage testing of valve seats, the Sml/min and Scc/min are usually used; some flowmeter use Sml/min other flowmeter have Scc/min.

Referring to the SI (International System Unit) how is it correct to measure the gas flow rate? Sml/min or Scc/min ?

Are you talking about only cc and ml (one and the same) or you are talking up on in general about selection of units?

If you want to measure the volume of some small quantity cc is OK, you should not use m^3. But if you want to measure volume of water in some dam.. totally different units will be needed, Using cc as measure is not non scientific, but certainly absurd.

I would like to say that ml/min = cc/min = 10-6 m3/min = 10-3 l/min

Don't you use NM3/min, SM3/Hr or similar for gas flow rates?

or in your case may be Nmm3/min or Smm3/min ?
