Mix paraffin and beeswax together, starting with 70% paraffin and 30% beeswax ratio and decrease the beeswax until mixture looks best on the shoe. This mixture collects more dust than carnauba wax hence needs shined more often. Carnauba flakes are less expensive where I live, so I am curious - why do you not want to use carnauba?

Silicones are used for this.

I've heard that sunflower wax and rice bran wax have properties similar to carnuba wax. Sunflower wax is white to very pale yellow. Rice bran wax is tan color.

[Only 3 replies, so far...?] Reading the OP several times, I assume you are wanting to develop a new product for market. I suspect that the base material will depend in part upon what kind of pigments will need to be added, to cover various colors of shoes...(???)

[or, perhaps the pigments will need to be chosen based upon the base material that gets elected...?]

Anyway ~ my input ~ you might be surprised, if you do a little experimenting on your own... I once had to search the house for a "quick remedy" to my ugly, dirty shoes (hiding in a closet corner for two years+, dirty when put there).

Wiping carefully with aloe brought back a truly remarkable shine, and saved the day!

Will be interested to return here one day and see what OTHER suggestions have been tried.

Wishing you the best of luck ~ !

The wax part of the shoe polish has got unique properties of adhesion, hydrophobicity, shine, lustre development on rubbing, non sticky, moisturizing and cleanabilty.

If you are to try an alternate the stuff should have equivalent properties stated above.

The options come to my mind are- silicon grease, silicon dispersions, micro silicons, olive oil, coconut oil, poly ethylene glycol[ high molecular weight],. poly siloxanes, acrylic emulsion and so on. You may try a compatible functional mixture with the above options based on availability.
