Space heater rated voltage

10/01/2009 2:21 PM

Why space heaters are used rated at the voltage twice of the operating voltage?

They are able to handle when elementrs in the heater fail and the overal voltage to bond increases and will not fry out the system, relay, theormoastat etc.

cheers.

Make sure you conntect the correct voltage supply the the rated voltage of the heather or a fire (guartnee) will occur. Usually the element will blow bc the current is increased by a factor of 4 if for example you hoook up 208V/240V to a 120V heater

cheers

The space heater when used at half of its rated voltage will operate at a lower temperature. Heat is voltage squared over R or 0ne fourth of the heat output. This extends by several fold the life of the heater. Of course you will need more heaters to get the required output.

Space heaters are usually used in most of the HV cubical to maintain slightly higher temperature than the normal ambient temperature of the outside environment. It helps to keep the moisture out from the cubical. You don't need to have very high temperature inside the cubical. The voltage for the space heater are usually rated at the voltage twice of the operating voltage.
