generator transformer connections

10/02/2009 9:46 AM

We have two (2) 2000 kva and one (1) 1600 kva generators with ungrounded wyes connected to three (3) separate 2500 kva delta (low sides) winding transformers. The primaries (high sides) of the transformers are grounded wyes (gen wye [ungrounded] to transformer delta [ungrounded] to tranformer wye [grounded]). Power generated at 480 volts 50 hz being stepped up to 11kv at the transformers. Can this configuration cause problems? No other generation will be connected to the system.

Thanks.

Don't see a problem there! No apparent harmonics.

In case, one phase in the trasnformer is faulted to ground, the other two phase voltages to ground would be the line voltage. So, the generator as well as the low side of the trasnformer shall have insulation to body for line voltage.
