Hi Frequency VFD output power measuremet

10/10/2009 4:19 PM

Dear Sir,

We are having installation of 200KW siemens make VFDs for spinning machines

The output of this VFD is fixed at 133 Hz,415V

I am in search of a instrumet which can measure & record the KW/KVA/KVAR/Amp/Voltage at this 133 Hz PWM output.

You need something like this http://www.tequipment.net/InstekGWM039.html

Google KVA and watt meters

It might be easier to measure the inlet power and subtract a few percent for the drive losses.

presently I am already doing so.

but variable losses are proportional to load. and my load (spg. machine) having variable charactristics. Thus I can not follow this method.

Don't you have an analog output from the drive giving you the motor power or current?

I have used a Fluke 43 which is also good for supply side - some instruments don't have high enough frequency response in my experience.

Only the most expensive of scopes can capture, extrapolate and calculate the extremely complex output waveforms of a VFD, expecially at 133Hz output. As mentioned above, your best bet is to use the VFD's readings through either an analog output or via serial communications. If you have a Micromaster or Sinamics drive, it will have all of those values available to you.

Easiest way is to use the built-in measurement capability of the VFD and route that to an analog output on the VFD.
