How about a refrigerating robot that pours you the perfect beer?

Take a look at the following patient . . . I have always thought that an excellent project for a undergrad engineering student would be to study this cycle and perhaps even build a working model . . .

http://www.google.com/patents/about?id=t0BRAAAAEBAJ&dq=einstein+refrigeration

such a system would be a valuable item in remote areas where no electrical power is available . . . or even in large scale industrial applications where waste heat could be used as the energy to drive the cycle.

The Einstein device is probably great, I am a big fan of him.

I worked in the engineering lab of a major college, helped the students with their projects. Even the best designs suffered from time and expertise problems. The students would research and design the project, and I would make the prototype. We had a pretty good machine shop, and I am a very good weldor. Nonetheless, the projects seldom worked. There just wasn't enough time to build, test, re-design, rebuild, retest, etc. The first prototype was what usually went to the final presentation.

For a student, who will be working alone probably, with minimal access to facilities, I would recommend keeping it as simple as possible. Actually the beer thing has potential. I'm really impressed by the electronic ice chests. Finding creative uses for that technology is a dorm room type of job. How about a self-cooling six pack!!

How about a robot that will provide you with personal airconditioning and that runs on human urine ?
