I think I'll just refer you to this page.

And if that page doesn't help, you can always go to the good old "plan B" "plan A"

Not much to go on. If this is your first rebuild, pay someone to do it and watch and take notes. I assume the motor is OK.

Or, check for erosion, wear, cracks, discoloration on impeller and case. Check shaft wear. Replace any wear parts, such as seals, etc.

If out of tolerance, replace or repair. You should consult the manufacturer's literature.

Or, call them and ask questions.

I'd disregard the Loctite repair site. It looks too much like a commercial for Loctite products.

Yeah I concur... loctite is less concerned with anything real, and more concerned with selling their product. I thought it offered some decent pictorial cutaways and whatnot though. I like pictures .

I probably would have actually written some things to check for, but considering the vagueness of the question, I didn't feel like spending the time.

Yes, the pictures are nice. They would be a good start for someone who has never seen the inside of a pump.

When I was doing pumps, we sold enough to have the manufacturer's ear. Our customers got the service they needed. Serfilco, no endorsement, took me to lunch once a month. Others, too. No brag. Those days are gone.

Cheers.

good advise from our friends, but are you asking about single impeller pumps or multi-stage submersible pumps?

Try these documents:

API 610, API 682, API 685, Centrifugal & Rotary Pumps Fundamentals with Applications by CRC Press, Knowing & Understanding Pumps by Elsiever Ltd. Press, or Centrifugal Pumps Design and Application by Gulf Publishing.

There are many things to check out but these may be the the most important:

Shaft:1. Check coupling and key way.

2. Check allignment of coupling.

3. Check shaft for cracks and corrosion

4. Check sealing surfaces for wear.

5. Check locknuts of impellor on shaft

Impellor:1 Check for cracks, escpecially on sides of impellor

2. Check for excessive cavitation. Smooth if necessary.

3. Check for neck rings to be fixed well and not to have excessive clearance.

4. Balance rotating element after assembly.

5. Ensure correct diameter

6. Position impellor in correct middle position. This is very important for balanced intake impellors.

Casing: 1. Check for flatness of mating surfaces.

2. Check for neck rings, fixed well and not too much clearance

3. Repair corrosion protection.

4. Fill up corrosion pits with good quality epoxy or welding.

5. Check line bore of bearing surfaces.

6. Check lubrication system of bearings

7. Ensures water drainage holes are open

8. Do not overtighten glands, no leaking will lead to rapid wear.

9. Check lubrication levels

10. Ensure that motor is running on magnetic centre with free play on coupling.

11. Lubricate coupling

12. Check for endplay on thrust bearing.

13. On start up check on vibrations.

14. Check for hot connections at motor.
