Mill Test Certificate

10/16/2009 3:24 AM

Hello
I work in the hydraulics industry and have a question on the Mill Test Certificate. Do you have a Mill Test Certificate on the fitting or just pipes? If no, where can i find the documentation for that? If yes, how will it look to comply with U.S. law

MIL test documentation and procedures are very rigorous. All parts that go into the finished product will need their own certification to the degree of the spec. Some requir x-rays of individual 1/4 watt resistors

a simple search provides these links. look down a few pages, and you may find something that will help you.

Clarification of terms. MILL, vs MIL-

Are you a steel mill? A brass mill? An Aluminum mill, extruder, or redraw house?

Mill means a manufacturer of raw materials. A manufacturer of these metallic raw materials offers a test report or 'certificate' describing the material, the standards ad specifications to which it conforms, and any applicable test results.

Mill Test reports are issued by the manufacturer of the raw material.

In the US "test reports"and "Certs" mean the same thing. CTR's Certified Test Reports are signed by a responsible party and document actual results of tests per the agency standards captioned thereon.

"MIL-"is a prefix for certain government specifications, and standards.

Typically manufacturers of fittings "Warrant" the form fit or function of their products, But do not issue a mill cert, since they are not a mill. The applicable ASTM spec for your product (or the product you are buying) will tell you what must be reported to the buyer.

Beware of some Service centers who provide you with a "blanket cert" for the grade which gives the entire specification range for the material grade, rather than actual report of test results. If they can't keep trackof the material identity well enough to match the paperwork to the material to your order , why would you buy from them? Cheap price? opportunity to be sued in court when your product fails? Why do it?

milo "my signature was applied to hundred thousands of mill certs for steel from 1992-2003 and never a lawsuit"

Hmm, I see some ambiguity. I used to be an RCAF instrument tech and we used dead weight testers to test hydraulic pipe, bends gages, valves etc. The dead weight tester was Mil approved, and was calibrated from time to time at an approved lab.

That made me leap to my comments.

Possibly the original poster will illuminate us?

We shall see.

I'm sure you were testing to mil spec method.

Later.
