CAD Program

10/16/2009 9:26 AM

Can someone recommend a CAD program for the novice. I work with radar system so if the software touches on RF components and has a built in spice or simulations it would help for basic design and still cover my tinkering during the weekend.

As it pertains to electronics, CAD tends to be related to board layout rather than design of the circuit. Are you looking for a CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) system instead (as your post seems to suggest).

There are many CAE and CAD systems out there such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics, et al, but they are professional and expensive. Their RF applications are pretty much left to the engineer.

The 'hobbyist' CAD and CAE systems are absolutely useless and they don't approach RF considerations.
