Fan Motor Selection

10/16/2009 12:09 PM

I have recently garbage picked a home dehumidfier. The circulation fan motor is shot. After doing futher investigation on this unit it seems to be a regular problem for this model? Should I by fan with higher amperage rating to prevent burn out or do something else?

That might work, assuming the OEM undersized the motor to begin with. I've seen many a design be set aside to save a few bucks. Nevermind the warranty issues, focuse on low cost..

It's probably not "shot"! Many moons ago, I did the same thing

Simply clean-up and lube the motor bearings. You'll likely find that the device will keep running because it'll no longer kick-out on overload. Give it a shot!

Service Factor is the most important parameter in determining how long a motor lasts, only if voltage, application, temperature and operating conditions are within the motor's range.
