Coriolis Flow Meters

10/19/2009 4:25 AM

I received a coriolis type flowmeter . the calibration range is 0-1000GPM . Process fluid is NGL . Density =0.65

Vendor done the calibration by H2O up to 2268kg/min

When i converted our tange 1000GPM to kg/MIn it comes 2440kg/min . then found vendor calibration 2268kg/min is less from our range.

does vendor consider other parameter also in calculating flow that i couldnt understand . Can anybody tell me generally how mass flow is determined from coriolis type flow meter.

Coriolis meters measure the velocity, and infer the volumetric flowrate from the pipe size. To get to mass flowrate, some measurement of density is required.

Would it be easier to install a mass flowmeter instead?

You are wrog .....coriolis flowmeter infer direct mass flow from certain contsriants viz- tubes natural frequency, temperature drift etc

Hello David,

Why not join CR4?

I have pasted an explanation of the Mass Flow Coriolic Meter below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_flow_meter

A mass flow meter, also known as an inertial flow meter or a coriolis flow meter, is a device that measures mass flow rate of a fluid traveling through a tube. The mass flow rate is the mass of the fluid traveling past a fixed point per unit time.

The mass flow meter does not measure the volume per unit time (e.g., cubic meters per second) passing through the device; it measures the mass per unit time (e.g., kilograms per second) flowing through the device. Volumetric flow rate is the mass flow rate divided by the fluid density. If the density is constant, then the relationship is simple. If the fluid has varying density, then the relationship is not simple. The density of the fluid may change with temperature, pressure, or composition, for example. The fluid may also be a combination of phases such as a fluid with entrained bubbles.

In a typical mass flow meter the fluid is contained in a smooth tube, with no moving parts that would need to be cleaned and maintained, and that would impede the flow.

I hope this helps you.

Take care

Correction: coriolis meters are mass meters.

Is there a difference between the calibration temperature and the operation temperature?

Coriolis flow meters measure mass flow directly. The GPM is derived from the density of the media and the flow tube cross-sectional area. Vendors generally do not calibrate these meters. The manufacturer's electronics, that are part of the package, are used to select the flow range and units. You should be able to get into the configuration and change the range and units. If the vendor has changed some of the parameters you should be able to reset the electronics to the factory defaults and start your configuration afresh.

Hello Guest,

Can I suggest you read the entire post and links in post #5?

Take care.
