MCCB is "Moulded Case Circuit Breaker" - it is a compact verison of an ACB (Air Circuit Breaker). In principle both are same. Even the IS & IEC Standards are the same for ACB & MCCB.

Rating wise & Breaking Capacitywise too, today's MCCBs can match the ACBs. Continuous current rating up to 3200A or even more and breaking capacities of up to 150KA are available in MCCBs. In ACBs to you can get up to 6300A Current rating & breaking capacities of up to 75kA.

The main difference is that the MCCB is not maintainable. It is a use-and-throw kind of device. Whereas and ACB can be maintained. Its Main Contacts, Arcing Contacts, Mechanism, etc. can be replaced.

Hi lynlynch,

I appreciate the way you replied to this thread. This is a subject coming off and on in this forum ( a dozen times)and still people do not bother to to check the previous threads before initiating a new thread on a subject. This trend is very bad and cause waste of time for repetition and need to be emphasised for correction.

Hi Guest,

That is fine . Our intension is only to provide help and not to criticise but when we see that the time we spent on replying these threads are not utilised properly by members,( sorry) at times we feel bad. It will be more proper and better if you join the forum as regular member so that you have an identity and do not remain only as a guest.

Best wishes
