What's the Best Diesel Car (B Segment)?

10/28/2009 6:27 AM

Hi friends,

I live in India and am planning to buy a new car with the following requirements:

1. Good mileage - daily usage around 45km in city. So would prefer a diesel one due to the cost factor.

2. Seating around 4-5 people.

3. Budget - around 5lakh

Please post your suggestions.....really need the guidance.

Thanks!

Don't know what they're worth in your area but the VW Golf TDI is hard to beat, getting a realistic 5.8L/100km.

By the way, L/100km is a stupid unit, what's wrong with km/L?

Hi there. I don't know what the standards are in India, but in Europe it wouldn't be advisable to buy a diesel car for this milage. The problem is that the soot filters in newer cars need to be hot to work properly. Driving short distances does't allow them to heat up sufficiently. Besides polluting more, the bigger problem is that you're looking forward to frequent repairs which in the end will cost you more than you've won buying diesel.

Hello friend

Definitely it is a confusion when you are in the buying tendency. Naturally depending on your application of your vehicle ( you said to use around 40 kms ) you can search the vehicle status in the second market. That time you learn how to buy a vehicle.

Bye

Hello Guest, Within your budget, you can have a very good range eg.

1 Maruti Swift Diesel Av.milage : 17 th 18 kmpl in city drive

2 Indica V2. Av. milage : 18 to 20 kmpl in city drive

3.Indica Vista Av. milage : 12 kmpl in city

Please visit the websites of Maruti & Tata Motor and make a comparision of all aspects & make a right choice. Happy motoring ! Rangasamy
