Plumbing Problem

10/30/2009 2:59 PM

A friend bought a house and found his water closet tank was leaking. Here are pictures of the plunger system. Looks like an upside down spittoon. None of the plumbing supply houses around here can identify it. Can anyone identify it and who makes (made) it?

Is there any logos on the toilet anywhere? You could just replace the whole assembly with a flapper/over flow tube. In essence this one piece does the same as the whole flapper assy.

I agree, switch it out. It is fairly easy to pull a toilet apart, all you need is a huge screw driver, pump house pliers, and maybe a crescent wrench. Some notes for you:

1. Buy new bolts and nuts or else it will leak (these should come with rubber gaskets)

2. Replace the float assy since you have to disconnect it anyway (these are fairly cheap).

3. Change the water line to a flex line, just trust me on this one.

4. You will have to buy a new doughnut. This is the foam gasket between the tank and the seat. You will probably need the manufacturer of the tank to get this, look for a brand name on the inside of the tank, almost to the top.

5. Don't tighten the tank down until it touches the seat. If you do, then you will most likely crack the tank.

Total cost should be around $50. I hope things work well for you.

Just a thought for any plumbing job.

I always specify or insert a simple tap in the water feed to any stand alone plumbed appliance as this can mean any repair or replacement is just that tiny bit easier.

Good Luck

Hello All,

Looks like some sort of rubber doughnut used in lieu of a standard rubber flapper valve. I'd replace it as I seriously doubt you'd find a suitable and identical replacement for it. looks like a one-off if you ask me....never have seen one such as this and I've fixed many a toilet tank gizzards in the the past 365 years or so....

Just my 88 Cents worth....

Nice find these work very well be a shame to replace the whole piece when the seal is what is needed...

IF you could "reverse flush", I'd bet the Goldfish, errrr carp, would get huge!! LOL

Now, where's my fishing pole when I really need it???

Would love to have it for the kids' bathroom, but it's a tad too pricey for my wallet...
